Koshland Park Improvement Project

This project represents a set of three distinct projects that will be planned and completed together in 2026 to improve efficiency and minimize park closures and other disruptions to neighbors and other park-goers.

Koshland Playground Renewal

Scope of Work

This project will fully renovate the playground in Koshland Park. This playground renewal project will replace all play equipment and playground surfacing within the existing playground footprint, complete minor fence and gate improvements, and ensure the playground is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Background

The project is a part of Rec and Park’s Playground Renewal program, an initiative that leverages the City’s cooperative purchasing power to streamline the delivery of complete replacements of play equipment and play surfacing.

Koshland Playground is Rec and Park’s third Playground Renewal project. The first was Bernal Heights Playground Renewal, which was completed November 3, 2025. The second is Louis Sutter Upper Playground Renewal, which is scheduled to begin construction in Mid 2026..

Funding

Funding comes from 2020 Health & Recovery Bond.

Koshland Park ADA Improvements

Scope of Work

This project will remove existing barriers to public accessibility in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by creating clear access points, upgrading pathways, correcting slopes and grades, and providing clear paths of travel from the entrance to park attractions.

Funding

Funding comes from the General Fund from a dedicated program for ADA compliance.

Koshland Community Garden Renovation

Scope of Work

Koshland Park Community Garden Renovation will enhance accessibility, improve site stability, and expand opportunities for community use in the community garden section of the park.

The project includes construction of a new accessible entry path with park tread paving, new retaining walls, and drainage improvements to support long-term site performance.

Raised community garden planters will be added to expand growing opportunities, and a new wood deck with integrated seating will provide space for gathering and educational programming..

Background

Koshland Park and its community garden have long served as a vital green space in the Western Addition neighborhood. The garden is managed in partnership with neighbors and local organizations, offering opportunities for food production, environmental education, and volunteerism. Over the years, the site’s circulation paths, slopes, and infrastructure have required updates to meet modern accessibility standards and support the growing needs of the community. The upcoming renovation builds on this legacy by ensuring the garden remains safe, inclusive, and resilient for future generations.
