Golden Gate Park - Botanical Garden Bookstore Barrier Removal Project

Background 

In late 2021, Recreation and Park Department staff received a citizen complaint about access into the bookstore, as it has one step up into the facility, and there is no handrail. RPD’s ADA Coordinator for Physical Access and staff from the Mayor’s Office on Disability performed a site visit and confirmed the site conditions. As an interim measure, a programmatic solution is being developed to accommodate patrons who may not be able to enter the facility.

Scope of Work

The intent of this project is to develop a conceptual design to ensure that the Botanical Garden Bookstore complies with required building codes and the Americans with Disabilities Act. A physical solution likely will require design and construction of a ramp and handrails.

Funding

Funding for the current scope of work will be allocated from RPD’s annual set-aside for ADA improvement projects.
