Jr Warriors Flyer

Our inclusive 25+ years annual Jr. Warriors League is a proud partner with the NBA champions, Golden State Warriors, that provides a safe and fun environment for youth basketball around San Francisco to be a part of Jr. NBA before the 2000s. Through our Jr. Warriors league, we aim to encourage participation in youth basketball and assist the development of local youth by stressing the importance of commitment, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and hard work.

SFRPD Jr. Warriors league provides opportunities for well over 1000 youths (from Kindergarten to 8th grade, Co-ed/ALL girls divisions) to learn the fundamentals and play with us every year, over 200 volunteers investing in the growth in our players by managing and coaching, and the priceless experiences of exploring our different parks/gyms/programs within our communities where league games are held around San Francisco.

We're excited for the 25+ years annual All-City Jr. Warriors Youth Basketball League beginning in January 2024 - March 2024.

Our 8 weeks Jr. Warriors season will start from the week of 1/9/24  with the championships on 3/2/24.

The league depends on the generosity of volunteers to provide an opportunity for our youth (Ages 5 to 14/Co-ed & ALL Girls Divisions (if enough teams join)) to learn the game of basketball in a recreational, supportive, and safe environment.

Registration for the 2024 SFRPD Jr. Warriors League will open at 10AM on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023.Priority Registration (for families on scholarship) opens at 10AM  Monday, October 30th, 2023.If you haven't yet, you must sign up for an account to register in any of our programs, including both individuals and independent registration for our Jr. Warriors league.

Due to popular demand, we have updated our registration process for independent team sign-up. The lottery will be open until 11/3/23 @ 5pm, once the lottery is closed, we are unable to add any late entries. Teams will be notified of the results the week of Nov. 13th. THIS IS NO LONGER A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE REGISTRATION!
Payments will be due to secure your spot when you receive your invoice. Late payments may result in your team being withdrawn from the league. Duplicate entries will be removed. League games (6 or more per team) will be played on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays at different Recreation Centers depending on grade level.
If your team has combined grade levels, please register your team for the highest grade level division. For example, 4th  & 5th grade team will register for 5th grade division.

Independent teams must have their own coach, practice venue, and jerseys. We will only provide the league games during the season.

Duplicate entries for the same team and division will result in that team being removed from the lottery.

Volunteers

Our Jr. Warriors League depends on the generosity of volunteers to provide an opportunity for our youth (Kindergarten - 8th Grade) to learn the game of basketball in a recreational, supportive, and safe environment.

One of our greatest needs is for volunteer coaches at all levels of play. We are grateful that you have expressed an interest in volunteering. Coaching can be a rewarding experience for parents, families, and other community supporters.

If you are interested in becoming a coach/assistant coach, you do not need to have a high level of experience in basketball. Our league offers a variety of resources to help with this task including, an annual coaching clinic and experienced coaches who are more than happy to provide advice.

Positions available are:

  • Basketball Coach- Provides an enjoyable and safe positive sporting experience for participants while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play.
  • Basketball Assistant Coach- Assists the Head Basketball coach with conducting & instructing players, motivating players, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Basketball Referee - Referees are needed to enforce the rules of the game, while still providing a safe and positive atmosphere for all.
  • Basketball Scorekeeper - maintain accurate tally and time sheets of games
All Basketball volunteers agree to support and influence good sportsmanship, high moral standards and are responsible for the conduct of their players and spectators.

Approved Coaches (Team successfully registered)

All Coaches must have passed an SFRPD Volunteer Background Check (Eligible for 5 years), show proof of COVID-19 Vaccination, and show proof of completion of annually Mandated Reporter and Concussion Awareness Training in order to participate.  Each coach will be required to show a picture ID and confirm that his or her name is on our official list before each game begins.

For new coaches, please fill out the SFRPD Volunteer Application and please sure to indicate which team(s) your coaching. Their office will have drop-in fingerprinting appointments - the dates are included at the end of the application form. Once you've completed the application, please go to the Millwright Cottage in Golden Gate Park during the listed drop-in times to do your fingerprinting. You will need to bring a photo ID & proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Please complete this step as soon as possible to avoid a back-up around the holidays.
Questions about this step can be directed to recparkvolunteer@sfgov.org.
