Earlier this month, PG&E began work to decommission its existing transition tower at 5000 Hunters Point Blvd. near the intersection of Hawes St. adjacent to India Basin Shoreline Park (IBSP). This tower has stood between IBSP and the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood for years. The removal of the transition tower will provide space to create a connected and accessible park.

Note that Hawes St. and its parking lot within IBSP will be closed to the public during construction. Public access to the park and the Bay Trail will be maintained during this initial construction work through the park's internal pathways connecting at the adjacent India Basin Waterfront Park (IBWP) at 900 Innes Ave. Hawes St. and its parking lot will reopen to the public when PG&E crews stop work each day.

In addition to this project, we're excited to share that the third and final phase of the IBWP project is expected to begin by late summer. This phase of the project will renovate IBSP and connect it with the newly opened park at 900 Innes Ave. to form one continuous 10-acre waterfront park. Note that when this phase begins, IBSP will be completely closed to the public to accommodate construction work, including access to the Bay Trail from the PG&E Shoreline to IBWP at 900 Innes.
