CONSTRUCTION FENCES, PEDESTRIAN ROUTES, AND TRAFFIC CONTROL
Construction fences are now in place on the four southern-most blocks, from Grove St to Turk Street.
Construction fencing will be installed on the northernmost block between Turk Street and Eddy Street starting next Monday, July 7.
All doors and gates that open onto Buchanan Mall will remain accessible via ADA-compliant access routes from the sidewalk at the ends of each block. All routes include lighting for safety.
As requested by neighbors, the screening fabric has been removed from the ends of the construction fences for visibility around corners to improve safety for pedestrians. If you have other suggestions for improvements to these routes, please reach out.
Pedestrian routes and vehicle traffic control at the intersections adjacent to Buchanan Mall will be adjusted as work progresses. There are no anticipated full-block closures, but different sides of the sidewalk along the construction fence line will be open, closed, or narrowed as needed.
Please pay attention when traveling near Buchanan Street Mall and follow all directional signage and flagger instructions.
SEWER WORK IN JULY AND UPCOMING NIGHT WORK
The focus on sewer work continues, as does salvage and demolition of existing park features. Recent activity includes installing and reinforcing sewer manholes, preparing the sewer main for the installation of new lining, and repairing and replacing sewer laterals that connect from adjacent properties. There are no anticipated service interruptions associated with the sewer work.
We have locked in our first dates for sewer cured-in-place lining work. Spray mortar for rehabilitation of the sewer manholes will happen on Friday, July 11. The sewer between Fulton and McAllister will be lined on Monday July, 21 and the sewer between McAllister and Golden Gate will be lined Tuesday, July 22 morning through Thursday, July 24 morning.
The sewer cured-in-place lining work must be completed in one continuous session for proper installation. Please be advised that there will be 48 hours of continuous construction activity from July 22, 7 a.m. to July 24, 7 a.m.
For more information on sewer cured-in-place lining, please review this fact sheet from SFPUC. Note that the project is using a non-styrene lining material.
