McLaren Park – Yosemite Creek | Project updates December 2023

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on December 01, 2023

Hello neighbors! As we shared in our September project update, Rec and Park, in partnership with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), is “daylighting” the historic Yosemite Creek in McLaren Park.

“Daylighting” is the process of uncovering and restoring a natural creek that was enclosed in underground pipes in a previous era. By allowing the creek to flow aboveground again, daylighting unlocks a great deal of ecological benefits for local plants and animals. As part of this project, we will also install a high efficiency irrigation and stormwater reuse system at the Louis Sutter playfield.

SFPUC is expected to reach the “95% design” milestone for this project in the coming months. We anticipate having the final design completed by Spring 2024, and construction will happen from 2024-2026.

The newly daylighted Yosemite Creek will run next to Wayland Avenue and feature a variety of new park amenities. Thank you for your ongoing support, and we’ll continue to keep you posted as the project progresses.
