We’re excited to have opened the Willie “Woo Woo” Wong Playground on February 12, 2021 to help kick-off the Year of the Ox! Thank you to everyone who made this renovation possible. We sincerely hope you enjoy this unique park as much as we do - make sure to get out and play here soon!
We are very close to finishing construction and opening the park again! The pagoda has a fresh coat of paint, the clubhouse’s wood bleachers are sparkling, and the hummingbirds are loving the new plants. There are only minor details left to complete and then we will open the gates. Stay tuned for an opening announcement! In the meantime, we hope these photos will get you excited to visit as soon as possible.
The Willie “Woo Woo” Wong project is quickly approaching completion! Here are a few recent photographs from the site. If you are in the neighborhood, peek through the windows on Waverly to see inside the clubhouse, the beautiful new mural, and all the way up into the playground. The playground construction is continuing, with an exciting feature arriving next week – the custom play equipment! Here’s a sneak peak of the equipment being loaded onto the delivery truck.
Demolition is complete and the site is now nearly a clean slate. After a hiatus for Chinese New Year, we are now beginning foundation work both in the building (what’s left of it!) and outdoors as well for the walls and ramps. After this work is done in a couple of months, you will start to see much more visible change on the site. As always, thank you for your patience as we complete this exciting renovation.
If you have walked by the park lately, you will have noticed big changes! Site demolition is well underway, and work inside the building will begin within two weeks. Concrete demolition will continue into November, after which things should quiet down a bit. The next step will be foundation work under the clubhouse.
You may have also noticed the beloved pagoda has been carefully moved (temporarily) to the tennis court. It may be the most unusual umpire’s chair ever!
As you may have seen, construction has just gotten underway at the park. The Construction fence is up and play equipment has been salvaged for reuse in other parks (including Portsmouth Square). Passersby may not see much outdoor activity since work in September will be mostly site assessment, preparation, and some “soft” demolition inside the building and along Hang Ah Alley. The pace will pick up in October and November when outdoor demolition and foundation work gets underway.
