This month, you’ve seen the existing Geary Blvd wall was stripped of its tiles and being strengthened while the new wall form work is being built. This wall will mitigate traffic noise and visuals from the plaza.
Other construction highlights include:
Plaza/Pagoda Work:
- Saturday work continues intermittently into September
- Fiber wrapping around the lower Pagoda columns are almost complete and cement coating is being applied over the fiber wrapping
- Concrete work for plaza planters and seating foundation continues
- Waterproofing continues throughout plaza. For the next three weeks, special concrete waterproofing will be applied directly on finished slab. There may be some odor from the material. Fans will be installed to help with airflow
Garage Work: mostly day work throughout July.
- Plumbing/Electrical layout and installation continues throughout.
- Pagoda: core drilling proceeds through the foundation for future steel tendons. North garage: shoring/scaffolding for beam work begins. Scaffolding, shoring continue- approximately 10 spots along the north side through Sept. 2025 and 60 parking spots under pagoda, in both upper and lower garage levels will be occupied through late 2025.Drive cautiously and follow posted detours signs on both upper and lower levels. Please do not walk on the ramp between levels.
Access to and throughout Japan Center Malls and Garage:
- Access from Geary Boulevard: Use the Geary Boulevard parking garage to access both East Mall and West Mall.
- Access from Post Street: Use the new posted detours into East Mall adjacent to U.S. Bank and to West Malls through the middle of construction entrance.
- Sidewalk: Accessible pedestrian detour is open along the north side of Geary between Laguna to Buchanan Streets. For safety, follow all detours, stay within fenced pedestrian detour lane, and avoid walking in the bus lanes.
