McLaren Trails | Trail work underway in McLaren Park, near Jerry Garcia Amphitheater

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on December 13, 2024

The long-anticipated trail work has begun! Our contractor started work near the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, putting in place erosion control measures to reduce runoff that has flowed towards the Amphitheater Restroom in recent years. They’ve also begun rough grading for the new trail alignment along “Main” (the access artery between the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and the Upper Reservoir) to guard against future erosion and protect natural resources, while also making the trail more accessible. This section of trail has been a top priority for improvement, and it’s exciting to see improvements starting to take shape!

The contractor has also installed split rail fencing to protect the sensitive riparian habitat south of the Amphitheater. And they are simultaneously working on improvements to the main trail south of Grey Fox Creek, which connects the Amphitheater Parking Lot to the Field of Dogs and trails within the Inner Core. Best Management Practices for erosion control during construction are in place, to protect active work from the rains.

Adjacent trails remain open, and no major detours are required at this time. For your own safety, please give ample space to contractor equipment, stay out of fenced areas, and follow all temporary signs.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.
