Exciting progress is underway at the Tenderloin Recreation Center as the new play area continues to take shape, bringing a warm, natural, and adventurous space to the neighborhood.
Playground equipment crafted from natural wood has been installed, establishing an organic look and feel that encourages exploration. Log climbing structures with nets and ropes, monkey bars, a fort, activity panels, and a nest swing were installed last week. Each play element is functionally linked, creating an interconnected obstacle course that supports movement, creativity, and discovery. The play area is framed with locally sourced stumps and logs that also serve as sculptural features for nature-based exploration. Our contractor is shaping and fitting each piece together with care, much like assembling a puzzle.
In the coming weeks, we’ll see the addition of a two-story climbing tower with a spiral tube slide. The soccer pitch will also be reassembled in a new location near the front fence, improving the overall layout of the site.
While the playground is closed during construction, we encourage visitors to explore nearby alternatives. Father Alfred E. Boeddeker Park and Sergeant John Macaulay Park both offer great options for outdoor recreation until the Tenderloin Rec Center play area reopens.
