In February, work was completed on the new pedestrian trail along Visitacion Avenue. This trail improves connectivity between Hahn and the Visitacion Valley Middle School and creates a more accessible connection from the sidewalk at Leland into the McLaren Native Plant Garden.
The new outdoor accessible recreation route pathway between the Upper Reservoir Parking Lot and the reservoir is nearing completion, and our contractor is moving on to the plaza and new ADA van parking space at the lot. The contractor is working as quickly as they can, but the closure will likely extend into early May, weather depending. Thank you all for your patience with the Upper Reservoir Lot closure. Note that Philosopher’s Way and the crosswalk at the Blue Water Tower remains open for pedestrians and bicycles, and the Shelley Promenade is also not impacted.
For over a month, work has been focused on trails, drainage, and erosion control improvements in McLaren Park. It has progressed a little slowly, as grading with heavy equipment needs to pause due to rain. The design build process has led to the installation of several new drainage features to mitigate erosion along “Main” (the primary circulation artery between the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and the Upper Reservoir). You can see the start of several drain lenses in the attached pictures. These features allow water to flow under the trail through the gaps in larger rocks, shedding water from the hillside in multiple locations, rather than allowing it all to run onto and down the trail as has been happening in recent years.
We understand that trail work is disruptive, and we appreciate everyone’s support by following on-site signage and staying out of closed area.
