Japantown Peace Plaza Renovation | Construction Begins Soon!

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on April 08, 2024

We’re excited to report that construction will soon begin on the Japantown Peace Plaza Renovation Project.

Since our last update in December, the construction contract was certified, meaning the contractor and sub-contractors have completed all pre-job meetings and preconstruction requirements in preparation for the start of construction in April. Certification takes about 3-5 months, and this team is on schedule.

Towards the end of April, following the Cherry Blossom Festival, Peace Plaza construction will begin. Key construction activities that are coming up soon include:

  • Post tree removal notifications for the garage waterproofing work. NOTE: This project will include the planting of 16 new trees and replanting of three existing culturally significant trees.
  • Secure the site with fencing and customer access.
  • Obtain required construction permits.
  • Preconstruction documentation of existing plaza elements.
  • Protect or remove salvaged items, recycle materials, remove and dispose of demolished items.

Once construction begins, photos will be posted on this project page. Stay tuned.
