Starting on Monday, October 6, Bauman Landscape and Construction will begin construction on the children's play area at the Tenderloin Recreation Center.
Once construction begins, the yard will be closed through Summer 2026.
The Tenderloin Recreation Center Children’s Play Area Improvement Project will transform the aging asphalt playground into an inclusive, nature-rich space designed for children and families. The project will replace outdated equipment with safe, ADA-compliant structures, create a unified play area for all ages, introduce shaded seating and quiet retreat areas, and add a Nature Exploration Area with natural play features.
These enhancements will provide more opportunities for healthy play, strengthen community connections, and offer families a safe, welcoming space in one of San Francisco’s most park-limited neighborhoods.
While the play area is closed for construction, we encourage visitors to enjoy nearby alternatives. Father Alfred E. Boeddeker Park and Sergeant John Macaulay Park are both excellent options.
Thank you for your support as we work to create a park that better serves the Tenderloin community for generations to come.
