Marina Project Update – Upcoming Dock Demolition Work
View of deteriorated docks in East Harbor (October 2024)
Starting the week of October 21st, a marine contractor, Lind Marine, will be mobilizing to remove the storm damaged and deteriorated docks from the East Harbor (aka Gashouse Cove). The planned removal of these docks is critical to prevent them from causing further hazards with the impending winter storms.
The dock removal operations will begin on October 21, 2024, and end on or before November 30, 2024. During this time, typical working hours will be 12 hours a day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. / 5 days per week (Mon.-Fri.). There may be occasional evening work (until 10 p.m.) and Saturday work as needed.
Scope of Work
Docks will be fully removed from Gates 2, 4 and 6, and select docks on the eastern ends of Gates 8 and 10 will be removed (see map below). Barge-mounted construction equipment will be used to move the disconnected docks onto a transport barge. The material from San Francisco East Harbor Marina Dock Removal will be disposed of at an upland facility.
Boater Access
Boaters will have access to docks in use, and the fuel dock will be accessible during work hours; however, occasional service disruptions may be necessary for the ingress and egress of large equipment. Contractors will have buoys or markers to denote the area of demolition and mark the area off-limit to boaters due to hazards.
Thank you in advance for understanding the inconvenience of this demolition work. In the near future, we will notify you of our next community meeting to discuss updates on the Marina Improvement and Remediation project; more details come.
