Twin Peaks Promenade Project | Project Update, February 2026

Rec Park Improvements: Twin Peaks Trails Improvement and Promenade Project Posted on February 12, 2026

Construction bids for the Twin Peaks Promenade Project were received on January 14, with four competitive bids submitted, all within budget – marking a major milestone in the next phase of reimagining this iconic San Francisco destination.

With the Twin Peaks Trail Improvement Project now complete, focus has shifted to delivery of the Twin Peaks Promenade Project. The project was advertised for construction bids in late November, and Bauman Landscape & Construction was identified as the apparent low bidder. The construction contract award will be brought to the Recreation and Park Department Commission for approval in February.

Another key milestone supporting project delivery is the planned jurisdictional transfer of the right-of-way for the closed portion of Twin Peaks Boulevard from Public Works to the Recreation and Park Department. This transfer will provide the site control necessary to construct the project. Legislation to partially vacate the roadway was heard by the Board of Supervisors’ Land Use and Transportation Committee in February and is expected to be considered by the Committee of the Whole in March.

The Twin Peaks Promenade Project will transform approximately one-third of a mile of the eastern alignment of Twin Peaks Boulevard, which has been permanently closed to vehicles, into a linear park with a multi-use, universally accessible recreational trail.

Ecological protection and restoration are central to the project’s design and include partial asphalt removal, stabilized soil trail surfacing, native plantings, seating areas, gabion and Sutter walls, and ornamental boulders. Grant-funded improvements will support vegetation and habitat restoration, erosion control, decommissioning of informal social trails impacting sensitive butterfly habitat, installation of split-rail fencing to protect ecological areas, and new informational signage. Additional improvements include reconfiguration of the existing parking lot to improve ADA access, installation of bicycle parking at multiple locations, and continued emergency and service access through removable bollards.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring/summer 2026 and conclude in early 2027.

Once complete, the Twin Peaks Promenade will provide a safer, more welcoming, and more ecologically resilient regional destination for residents and visitors alike.
