Buena Vista Park Improvements | Project update, February 2025

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on February 05, 2025

We wanted to share an update on the Buena Vista Park Improvement Project since our last update in July.

This project is currently in the planning phase, which includes mandatory regulatory and compliance work, as well as important on-the-ground testing to inform the design. Planning often appears quiet to park-goers, but things are very active behind-the-scenes.

Our current work includes grading studies, drainage studies, tree canopy studies, and soil borings, among many other critical tasks. All this pre-design work helps us to better understand the site conditions at Buena Vista, so we can make a design that will protect and benefit the site for decades to come.

Our project schedules, especially during planning, are always our best estimates at the time. Planning at Buena Vista has taken longer than anticipated because it’s a complicated site: It has complicated soil conditions and topography, unique natural and cultural resources that must be preserved, and several safety and accessibility issues to be addressed.

That said, we anticipate bringing the concept design to the Rec Park Commission for their approval this summer, after which we will begin the detailed design phase.

We’ll continue to be in communication throughout the design phase so you can remain informed, especially regarding anticipated construction schedules and impacts. Our goal is to complete this project and have everything open to the public within the next few years.
