Thanks to all who joined us for a Community Gathering at the African American Arts & Culture Complex on 11/12!
It was nice to see so many familiar faces, and we are filled with gratitude for you community members who have been such wonderful advocates for the Fillmore Community and dedicated and consistent participants throughout the decade-long planning and design process. Thank you for showing up, sharing great ideas, and making this a beautiful and impactful project!
Project partners and several members of the Memory Walk Advisory Committee shared updates:
- Bids have come in on budget, and the Best Value construction contract is anticipated to be awarded at Recreation and Park Commission at 10am on Thursday December 19, 2024. We will send the agenda and meeting details when they are available. Please mark your calendars!
- Rec and Park staff have been working to translate community recommendations into actionable initiatives, and we also plan to share a status update on the Park Improvement Equity Action planning at December Commission.
- We anticipate construction to begin in early 2026 and will share a more precise date when we have it.
- The Memory Walk Advisory Committee (MWAC) is being convened by Trust for Public Land, to guide the vision for the art and interpretive content that will be shared along the Memory Walk at Buchanan Mall.
- The MWAC has met a few times and will be picking up meetings in the new year, with the plan to release a Request for Qualifications for artists for Phase 1 foundational art in the early part of 2026.

Also, we heard at the community meeting that some folks have subscribed to receive these project updates but are not receiving them in their inbox. Check your spam folders or search for emails sent by listserv@civicplus.com. If you add listserv@civicplus.com to your contacts, this will often solve the issue. If this doesn’t work, or if a friend forwarded you this and you’d like to receive updates directly, please reach out to Project Manager Lauren Dietrich Chavez at Lauren.Chavez@sfgov.org.
