Just wanted to provide you with a brief update on the Glen Canyon Recreation Center Project.
As a reminder, you can always follow the project here:
Recreation Center Renovation Coming Up/ What to Expect:
The Glen Canyon Recreation Center will remain open during the summer months, to serve both the public and on-site summer camps at the park. Starting June 1st and continuing to August 14th, the Recreation Center will be open Monday through Friday, from 9am-6pm. This will include time for drop-in gym play, and camp use and classes as arranged by staff. Please contact the Recreation Center staff at (415) 337-4705 for more detailed class and sign up information. The upcoming Recreation Center Renovation, which was overwhelmingly approved by San Francisco voters in the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond, will start after August 16th. The building’s move out of equipment and furniture and subsequent renovation, will start after August 16th. You will be see banners posted soon with more information about the project.
The overall floor plan and the latest renderings can be seen here:
During renovation of the recreation center the ballfields, playground, and tennis courts will all be open. We will also provide an ADA accessible Porta-Potty available onsite 7 days a week while the building is closed for renovation.
The areas that will be closed during construction includes the recreation center building and the related patio (in front of the restroom door), the lawn directly to the north, the picnic areas directly around the building, including the picnic area at the back of the auditorium. The main construction staging area is planned behind the rec center on the lawn area. All of the current access points from Elk Street will remain open and are NOT anticipated to be used for construction access, including the Sussex Street Stairs, the trail from Elk Street above the tennis court and the new ADA drop off constructed at Elk street, used today. It is anticipated that construction access will be from the Bosworth Entrance. We will work to minimize impact on the neighbors to the greatest extent we can.
You will be hearing more from me as we get closer to the construction start!
Thank you again for your patience, let me know if you have any questions in the future.
