Congratulations to the San Francisco Deltas for bringing home the City’s first Northern America Soccer League Championship!
It was an amazing experience to watch this team coming together from their first game to the championship. Their greatest measure of growth can be seen in their performances against Miami FC, arguably the most dominant team this season. To finish the spring season, the Deltas were outscored 10-1 in their final two games by top seeded Miami FC. This fall, they faced that same team for back to back games in Miami, where they fought to a 1-1 draw before handily beating them 3-0 a few days later.
It was even more incredible to watch how San Franciscans have rallied behind our team. Kezar Stadium was rocking last night with a nearly sold out crowd of close to 10,000 people. Fans filled the stadium with drum beats, song, dance and jubilation. Kids, decked out in Deltas gear, ran endless laps around the stadium, waving the Deltas’ flag to cheer on the Red and Black. When that final whistle blew shortly after Devon Sandoval put the Deltas up 2-0 in stoppage time, it was touching to see the fans run out to congratulate the Team. They flooded the field as confetti fell, champagne sprayed and the Organization lifted the trophy over a field that has seen its share of championship caliber franchises. The only difference is that the Deltas accomplished this in their first year of existence as an expansion team, an unprecedented fete.
Thank you for inspiring passion for the sport of soccer in San Francisco and bringing our community together to write a new chapter of history for Kezar Stadium and San Francisco!
