2019 League – General Info: Beginning on Sunday, January 6th, 2019, at 15 SFRPD recreation centers across the city, boys and girls teams, from 5U – 18U, in Recreational, Intermediate, and Advanced Divisions, will compete in our 21st Season of 5-on-5 SFRPD Indoor Soccer! The rules are similar to traditional futsal – it is a fast-paced, exciting game and the league serves as a great opportunity to develop each child/team’s fundamental skills leading up to the spring outdoor season and, hopefully, a lifelong love of soccer.
Divisions: The age divisions for Intermediate and Advanced Divisions will be based on the calendar year, so, for example, 10U players must have birthdates between 1/1/09 and 12/31/09…they are “turning 10 in 2019”. Those turning 19 in 2019, that are still in high school, will be allowed to play in the 18U division. The Recreation Divisions will be based on School Year for Pre-K – 8th Grade, and on calendar year for high school teams. Teams that played in competitive divisions in other leagues, along with Club teams with ANY competitive players, will not be allowed to play in our Recreation Division. Players may “play up” up to two years; no players can “play down”. As teams register, the preliminary breakdown of the divisions will be published on our site so you can make a more educated decision about which is most appropriate for your team. Anyone with issues or questions about the placement of any of the teams is encouraged to contact our office. Once the divisions are finalized, the preliminary schedule will be created and you’ll have three days to review for potential schedule changes, before the final schedule is posted. There will be a max of 9 teams per division. Each additional team will be placed on a waiting list; if we have enough teams on the waiting list to create two divisions of 6 or more teams, we will do so, as long as the league is not already at capacity.
Coach Passes: Physical or digital coach passes – proof of a passed background check – will be required for ANY coach to be on the floor with the players. If you have not already passed a background check as a volunteer or coach in an SFRPD program, you are required to go through and bass a formal background check on your own – and the league will reimburse you (up to two coaches per team) if you provide those receipts. Once you’ve passed, a Coach’s Pass will be created for you and you’ll need to have it with you at each practice/game. If the head coach does not have proof of a passed background check before the league begins, the team will not be included on the schedule. Instructions will be included in your email confirmation once your team has been registered.
Player Passes (*9U & Older): Physical or digital player passes from other leagues or our 2018 season will suffice for proof of birthdates. Those without player passes, will need to provide digital pictures (through the registration process) and proof of birthdates at Mission Recreation Center (call or write for an appointment), so we can create your 2019 online player passes. Player passes, for 9U and older teams, will be checked before each game; individuals will not be able to participate without them, unless the league office has verified that the player is on the official roster. NO child can be on more than one roster. If you need to make changes to your roster after you’ve registered, you can do so, via email, by Monday, January 14th, 2019. Please see the template below.
*We will still confirm rosters/players before each 8U & younger game, however, Player Passes will not be necessary. For ANY of the divisions, if we find that a player is playing but not on that team’s official roster, that player and his or her coach could face a suspension from the league.

Payments must be received: Friday, 11/30/18.
Preliminary Schedule Published: Tuesday, 12/4/18
Final Schedule (w/ Playoff Brackets) Published: Friday, 12/7/18
Mandatory Coaches’ Meeting / Referee Demonstration / *Jersey Distribution: Monday, 12/10/18 – 7:00pm – 8:30pm @ Mission Rec Center (2450 Harrison St.). *SFRPD-issued jerseys must be worn during games. If they are not, games will be played, but the score will be counted as a forfeit loss for the offending team. Each team will be issued reversible jerseys; the home team will wear white, and the away team will wear green.

2019 Gamedays: Sundays, 1/6/19, 1/13, 1/27, 2/3 (some morning games), 2/10, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, & 3/24. (NO GAMES on 1/20 or 2/17)
Locations: Betty Ann Ong, Eureka Valley, Gene Friend – SOMA, Glen Canyon Park, Hamilton, Joseph Lee, Minnie & Lovie Ward, Mission, Moscone, Palega, Potrero Hill, Richmond, St. Mary’s, Sunset, & Upper Noe. Each team/division will play at just one rec center throughout the regular season; post-season games might be played elsewhere. Rosters are Final: Monday, 1/14/19 (the day after the second Sunday of games)
Conflicts: During the regular season, once the schedule is published, there will be NO changes…unless it is determined that a team has been placed in the wrong division mid-way through. If there are any conflicts during our season/playoffs with the SF Youth Soccer League’s opening games in mid/late March, the SFYS has agreed to schedule those teams’ games on Saturdays…we will work together if there are any conflicts to reschedule games. However, it is imperative that we know if you’re using alternative team names for each league. When the State Cup schedules come out in February for late March, if your team has a chance to make it into our playoffs, please contact them to inquire about adjusting their schedule right away…they were able to accommodate such requests last season. For Playoff games, we can reschedule games, but only on those dates…and only if all of the teams affected agree to those changes, in writing.
History of the League: In the 1970’s and 80’s, no one meant more to youth soccer in the Mission than Jose Coronado. For nearly 20 years, he helped the kids he coached on the Guadalajara Chivas club team at Folsom Park learn how to play soccer with passion, become better students, and develop into upstanding members of a community that still thrives today. As an assistant coach for McAteer High School, his teams won city championships in 1984, 1985, and 1986. A native of Guatemala and San Francisco State graduate, he tragically passed away from pneumonia in 1989 at just 44 years old. His friends and family petitioned the city to rename Folsom Park as the “Jose Coronado Playground”. In 1999, seeing a need for a winter soccer program, Jose Guzman, Oscar Jimenez, Frank Cassinelli, and Luiz Azucena, in conjunction with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, started the Jose Coronado SFRPD Indoor Soccer League. In this, our 21st season, we’d like to thank his friends and family for keeping his spirit alive in the city, neighborhood, and game he loved.
