Per previous update, tree work began at and around Panhandle Playground on Tuesday, January 22. We had anticipated that it would be completed by end of day today Friday, January 25; however, the contractor needs 1-2 more days to wrap up the work.
To meet neighborhood demand, we have re-opened the playground for the weekend and the contractor will close it again Monday morning, January 28. We anticipate the work will be completed on Tuesday and playground re-opened late Tuesday. Please check the project page of the Rec and Park website as we will post an update next week to confirm playground opening following work.
Updated notices were also posted on site (today) as well to alert playground and park users of the closure.
For the safety of our park users and contractor staff, please heed posted closure notices. Nearby areas, including the south Panhandle pathway, and basketball court, will be cordoned off to the public as needed during this time frame.
In other news, the Recreation and Park Commission approved the construction contract award to contractor CF Contracting, Inc for the playground renovation, on January 17, 2019. This is an important milestone that brings us one step closer to the renovation starting! We anticipate construction beginning this Spring. Please stay tuned for more specifics.
Finally, Project Manager Melinda Stockmann Sullivan is expecting a child and will be out on maternity leave as of January 30, 2019, and is transferring management of the project to Cara Ruppert in her absence. For project inquiries, please reach Cara at Cara.Ruppert@sfgov.org or at 415-581-2547.
Thank you for your interest in the project. Please stay tuned for additional project updates!
