The second of 3 McLaren Park Project Trails + Paths Focus Group workshops was held on Saturday, April 8 at the Visitacion Valley Branch Library. Over 50 community members attended. The design team gave a presentation (click here to view) and then participants reviewed a preliminary diagrammatic representation of trails and path improvements (click here to view) in small groups.
Input from community members was solicited on the following:
- Organizing framework for trails / paths system
- Primary trails / paths: 2 large multi-use loops in the north and south halves of the park, connected by the newly transformed Mansell Street
- Secondary trails / paths: function as the “spokes” of the circulation network, connect the neighborhood gateways to the primary trail / path “hubs;” surface mostly paved
- Tertiary trails / paths: connect points of interest, moments of personal solitude or places for discovery to the primary trails / paths; certain routes designated as multi-use and will allow cyclists
If you were unable to join us for the workshop and would like to contribute your feedback, please send an email to Melinda.Stockmann@sfgov.org by Sunday, May 7. Please also stay tuned for the date for our final Trails + Paths Focus Group workshop, which is anticipated to be held in June. At this workshop, we will review how we’ve incorporated your feedback. We will also discuss more design details, including roadway crossings, signage and trail and path surfacing.
