SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – San Francisco police and city officials are kicking off a safe parks and streets program, officially launching the “Safe Summer in the Parks” initiative on Tuesday.
Part of the program is a temporary skateboard park at Stanyan and Waller near Golden Gate Park.
San Francisco Recreation and Park Department spokesperson Sarah Ballard said the idea is to provide something relevant for kids to do during the summer.
“We are combining a fun activity for kids with a temporary skate park,” she said. “We’re putting resources into the park to maintain a safe and fun atmosphere throughout the summer.”
There will be an increased law enforcement presence in San Francisco’s parks as part of the program.
If the pilot skateboard park is made permanent, the San Francisco Skateboard Association has said they will pay for it.
