Joe Dimaggio Playground – site closure & construction updates

The library demolition is complete & the playground is almost fully reopened! The tennis courts & bocce courts have been reopened for a couple weeks now, and the older kids’ playground reopened this week. The contractor is still on site to install some temporary improvements & intends to reopen the smaller children’s playground as soon as possible. This small area remains closed in order to ensure visitors’ safety while construction operations occur nearby.

The playground renovation project is still on-track to start construction later this year. We received competitive bids from contractors and are now processing the permits, approvals and contracts.

Interested in contributing to the project? The Friends of Joe Dimaggio are working with the San Francisco Parks Alliance to receive donations. The generous donations will fund upgrades and additional elements at the park. You can purchase a donor tile at the organization’s website.

A note from the the Friends of Joe Dimaggio:
Add your name to the North Beach Legacy Tiles and secure your place in history. A commemorative wall surrounding the Joe DiMaggio Playground will honor the great families, individuals and institutions of North Beach – and you can be part of it. Add the names of your parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, businesses and civic organizations to list of notable North Beach families and groups. Proceeds from the tiles help fund the renovation of the Joe DiMaggio Playground. Go to the group’s website to read more or to purchase tiles:
