Glen Canyon TRAILS Project Begins 10/29: Temporary Trail Closures

Our contractor will be beginning work on the Glen Canyon TRAILS project on Tuesday, October 29th.  First up is setting up staging areas and completing hazardous tree mitigation work.  Per community requests, we are planning to maintain the “Ticket Tree” Monterey Cypress stump just west of the trail from the Rec Center to Silver Tree higher than usual to accommodate popular children’s play as long as no further unanticipated hazard is found.

Please visit the project page regularly and/or sign up to receive blog updates to keep up to speed on this project.

We will post more details on the blog as well as on informational signage on site starting tomorrow regarding impact to park user access to the Canyon.

The upper trail/ fire road from the Bosworth Entry to Silver Tree (see image) will be temporarily closed for parts of the next few weeks, as will the Creekside Trail just north of Silver Tree and, to lesser extents, other trail segments.   There will also be a crane on Alms Road, a few hundred yards north of the Rec Center on Tuesday, October 29 to facilitate hazardous tree mitigation work.

We are making an effort to notify the public of temporary trail segment closures at trail intersections and to maintain as much access as possible.  Please stay tuned for more details and please heed temporary trail closure notifications for your safety.

We are excited to be starting this extensive capital improvement project, funded by the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond and by multiple Habitat Conservation Program grants!
