A community meeting was held on December 15 for the Gene Friend Rec Center Improvement Project. At the meeting, the design team followed up on the previous meeting in October, at which 4 design options were vetted with the community. The December 15 meeting provided a review of the building design using imagery and a scaled model. We also gathered input on landscape elements include seating, art, play and exercise equipment. You can find the presentation that was given at this meeting, as well as presentation boards that were shared under “Documents and Materials” on the main project page. The boards were posted around the room and folks were given green dots to indicate which components they like and were encouraged to write comments in the notes section.
The Trust for Public Land will be meeting with several community groups through the first week of January to share these same updates and collect more input. If you have questions or input to share, please contact Rec and Park Project Manager Melinda Stockmann by Friday, January 8 at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 415-581-2548. You can also print these boards, mark them up and send them via e-mail or USPS.
The design team also presented the project concept design to the San Francisco Arts Commission Civic Design Review Committee on December 14. You can find the presentation on the main project page under “Documents and Materials.” The project was well-received and some good comments and suggestions were made. The design team will return to Civic Design Review most likely on March 21 for Phase 1 approval.
The project is tentatively scheduled for Rec and Park Commission approval in April 2016. Funding for construction and delivery is yet to be secured. The project will likely be scoped as part of a 2018 General Obligation Bond. Stay tuned for more updates.
