Thanks to all those who attended our community workshop last night to discuss concept design progress for a new Gene Friend Rec Center – and for providing some thoughtful feedback.

For those unable to make it, you can view the workshop presentation (22 pages) (which was focused on project background, public art and next steps) by clicking here.

And you can view (8) presentation boards from our building and landscape stations (which show the latest design plans) by clicking here.

Please feel free to send questions or comments on this material to Project Manager Melinda Stockmann at melinda.stockmann@sfgov.org by October 3, 2018.

Questions that Arts Commission staff would love feedback on (you can send to melinda.stockmann@sfgov.org and we’ll pass along) are listed here:

  • What should artists who are interested in creating an artwork for this project know about this site and the community?
  • What is important to you about your community?
  • What should the artwork convey to future generations?

Next steps for the project include completing San Francisco Arts Commission Civic Design Review Phase 1 (October 15), completing environmental review (CEQA) and then presenting the concept design to the Rec and Park Commission for approval (target: December).

Stay tuned for more updates and next steps.
