Formerly known as North Beach Playground, this playground was renamed in 2000 in honor of Hall-of-Fame baseball player and former San Francisco resident Joe DiMaggio, who spent many of his formative years playing ball at North Beach and other local parks. A $7.5-million renovation in 2005 saw the playground’s once tiny clubhouse transformed into a 2,200 square-foot, state-of-the-art, multi-use community building.
