Open Gardens Day, September 13th!
September 13, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE FIRST ANNUAL OPEN GARDENS DAY WITH THE SF RECREATION AND PARK DEPARTMENT!
On September 13th from 10 am to 2 pm, several of our beautiful community gardens will be open to the public for enjoyment and education. Our 38 gardens are entirely volunteer run (over 1,600 participants and counting!) under the umbrella of Rec and Park’s Community Gardens Program, which is a component of the new citywide Urban Agriculture Program. There will be garden tours, classes, giveaways and other special events. The San Francisco Urban Agriculture Alliance will offer a bicycle tour (more information at http://www.sfuaa.org/). Come see some hidden gems and tour the great hard work of these volunteer gardeners.
Golden Gate Park CommUNITY Garden is full of activities all day. The Urban Agriculture Resource Center at Golden Gate Park CommUNITY Garden will be open from 9 am to 12 pm for compost, soil, and mulch pickup to anyone who wants to garden in the city. At 10 am Gretchen LeBuhn of SF State will offer a talk on Pollinators in San Francisco, and from 12-2 pm the gardeners at the garden will host anyone who would like to enjoy this unique space. This is the newest and largest community garden in our system and offers demonstration gardens, a living wall, garden plots serving over 160 gardeners, a native plant nursery, and an urban agriculture resource center.
Thanks to those of the gardens who are joining us as hosts and to the rest of you, please join us as participants and spread the word to others you know!
