Phil Ginsburg, SF Rec and Park General Manager made a surprise appearance at the Dolores Park Works/Bi-Rite Breakfast and a Park Clean-Up on Monday morning. Phil thanked everyone for turning out and told us that volunteers are essential to Rec and Parks plan for maintaining San Francisco’s parks at their best. We did have a great turn out with 8 volunteers from Bi-Rite, Matt Coelho from Cervecería, and 10 DPWorks volunteers. DPWorks volunteers came from the neighborhood, Dolores Park Dogs and as far away as Cal Berkeley (Go Bears!). A big thank you to all, especially David Burnett , Volunteer Coordinator, Rec and Park and Shakirah Simley, Community Outreach Coordinator, Bi-Rite Market for making this event a success!
Cleaning up along the Western Slope.
We sent a team to the south east corner, along 20th Street and under the palms along Dolores Street. Michelle, Rec and Park gardener led a group to the MUNI cut-through along Church Street. This area is set back from the rest of the Park and heavily shaded by tall trees and bushes. Many of the plants were planted over 15 or 20 years ago by Friends of Dolores Park . Phil told us he used to be a member of Friends of Dolores Park when he lived in the neighborhood. We will be hosting another Breakfast and a Park Clean-Up with Bi-Rite on September 23, so, please come out and join in the fun!
