Japantown Peace Plaza

Japantown Peace Plaza in the sun

Located at the heart of Japantown, the Peace Plaza hosts many annual traditions of this historic neighborhood, including the Cherry Blossom Festival, Nihonmachi Street Fair, the Summer Obon Festival and the Year-End Festival.

Rising from the plaza’s center is the Peace Pagoda, a five-tiered concrete shrine designed by Japanese architect Yoshiro Taniguchi. Installed in 1968, it was a gift from the people of Osaka, San Francisco’s sister city in Japan.
