National AIDS Memorial Volunteer Workparty
Saturday, June 17, 2023
Join the Friends of the AIDS Memorial Grove and the RPD Gardeners in monthly volunteer and special Community Volunteer Workdays.
The National AIDS Memorial Grove ("The Grove") was conceived in 1988 by a small group of San Franciscans whose community had been devastated by the AIDS epidemic. They wanted to create a place dedicated to all lives touched by AIDS; an “AIDS memorial.” In September of 1991, hundreds of volunteers gathered for the very first workday, and thus the Community Volunteer Workday Program was born. Today, volunteers continue to participate in monthly and special Community Volunteer Workdays, with a consistent average of 125 volunteers per Workday. Volunteers range from the very young to the elderly, come from all segments of the community and represent a diverse range of racial, economic, cultural, religious and other social groups.
