Bernal Heights Park Trails Improvement Project Closer to Construction

Team Assessing Existing Conditions at East Entrance

Thank you so much for your patience!

We are finalizing a bid package for contractors for phase 1 improvements at the park, which include improvements to the east and west entrances from the road to the hill (at Bernal Heights Boulevard and Folsom and at top of Esmeralda stairs) as well as erosion control management along the perimeter road. These improvements were discussed during our community outreach process. Due to limited funding, we will plan to make additional trail improvements as part of a phase 2 project.

The phase 1 improvements that we’re moving forward with will improve access to the upper hill while retaining the rustic feel of the park. We are also coordinating with SFMTA to add a crosswalk at the east entrance once the trail improvements are completed. This will supplement the stop signs and crosswalk installed in that area by SFMTA as a result of previous coordination between agencies.
