About Alice Marble
Alice Marble was the world’s top women’s tennis player at one time, winning 18 Grand Slam championships between 1936 and 1940. Born in Plumas County, Calif., in 1913, Marble and her family moved to San Francisco when she was 5, where she quickly mastered the sport, playing often in Golden Gate Park. Today, the Alice Marble Tennis Courts, overlooking the Marina and North Beach, offer some of the most breathtaking views in the city.
