Dear Playground Advocates,
Construction activities continue at the Alice Chalmers Playground.
The contractor, Azul Works, Inc., has completed the installation of most of the playground equipment, including the Cubic Fort (tower), the slide, swing set, and net climber. The scrambling blocks continue to be set in place. Most of the concrete within the playground has been poured. We’ve added additional scope within the project, which includes stud repair and wall repair, replacement of window glazing, brand new tiling and grout, and new paint in an effort to modernize the restrooms. Check out the photos.
As you may have seen, a concurrent project being led by RPD Park Operations has also started to take shape. The ballfield improvements consist of grading the site to repair unevenness and mounding within the field. The contractor will also perform soil amendments to help the new grass establish. New in-field cinder fines will be installed in the coming weeks to allow the field to be used for recreational programs. Heavier rains in the last few months, as well as recent intermittent rain, have prohibited grading work by heavy equipment. Drier conditions will allow the contractor to properly aerate the soil in preparation for sod installation.
On a final note, Bureau of Urban Forestry anticipates to perform sidewalk paving improvements the first 2 weeks of February to complement the park site work. Be on the look out for their signs and project.
Thank you for your patience as RPD Capital and its partners work towards project completion.
