Entwined Illuminated Art Installation Extends Residency in Golden Gate Park

Entwined

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – San Francisco Parks Alliance and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, in partnership with San Francisco artist Charles Gadeken, are pleased to announce the extension of Entwined, the illuminated art installation in Golden Gate Park’s Peacock Meadow through March 5, 2022. The light exhibit will continue an additional month past its initial ending date, complete with a radiant Valentine's Day display from February 11 through 14.

This past holiday season, the enhanced experience of Entwined included new sculptures, augmented technology, and an expanded layout to the delight of park goers of all ages. Visitors turned out in record numbers to explore this latest iteration of the installation.

“In every sense, Entwined has been a bright spot amid the pandemic and recovery,” said San Francisco Rec & Park General Manager, Phil Ginsburg. “It is a must-see attraction during a visit to car-free JFK Drive, and I’m thrilled more people can take advantage of this safe, creative, and free outdoor adventure.”

San Francisco Parks Alliance, in partnership with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, is also excited to announce that the upcoming ‘Light Up the Night : Bike Parade’ in Golden Gate Park includes a route that begins at Entwined on Saturday, January 29. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday, the illuminated night ride will travel down JFK promenade, turning around at the 6th Avenue Skatin’ Place. The evening will include prizes for the most creative light displays, opportunities to learn about safe night riding, and free light accessories while supplies last. Bikes, strollers, wheelchairs, skates and other wheels are all welcome – as participants are invited to bring their ride and help light the way through the heart of Golden Gate Park!

“Safely navigating our city parks is critical, so we are thrilled to partner with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition to bring this colorful event to life on car-free JFK, with the route beginning at Entwined,'' said Mark Hennon, Senior Project Manager at SF Parks Alliance.

Although other elements of Winter Lights in Golden Gate Park will not be extended past February, Entwined will continue to illuminate Peacock Meadow nightly from sundown to 10pm through Saturday, March 5.
