The project suffered COVID-19, weather, and subcontractor scheduling delays around the turn of the year, still, construction has moved steadily forward at George Christopher Playground. Our contractor achieved an important milestone at the end of January: the planting of all plants and sod, which starts the time ticking on a two month plant establishment period. Since then, two historic modernist play sculptures, and one replica have been positioned in a new play area adjacent to the ballfield fence. Concrete and asphalt pathways have been paved, safety surfacing and synthetic turf are in place, and most handrails have been installed.
While those new plants establish, our contractor is installing the remaining site furnishings, completing all inspections and closing out our building permit with the Department of Building Inspection, and wrapping up a few minor scopes of work. We anticipate opening in early spring, around the turn of the month, and will post another blog once we have a reopening date.
Please note that due to construction constraints, we needed to move the temporary public restrooms from the ballfield to the pathway behind the shopping center, across from USPS, between the ballfield and Gold Mine Drive.
Thanks for your patience; check out the photos below of our progress,
Lauren
