[ARCHIVED] Alice Chalmers Playground Construction Update – MAR 2020

Capital Project Update

Hi everyone,

The Alice Chalmers Project Team wishes our neighbors well and hope everyone is staying healthy and safe in these uncertain times.

We’d like to provide another construction update. During the month of February and March, the contractors assembled the planter benches, installed final irrigation components within the playground, planted and anchored trees, continued working on the slide/blocks, and completed rough grading of the ballfield. As of this week, fine grading is concluding at both the infield and outfield and the Contractor expects to perform soil amendments to help nourish the soil and support the incoming sod.

The timeline for the project has grown due to the enhanced project scope, primarily the inclusion of the ballfield irrigation work, and field improvements as part of this contract combined with a very rainy winter. Given the condition of the restrooms at the start of the construction, a full renovation of the facilities was immediately determined to be necessary, which augmented the scope. Furthermore, the Department also included the repair and repainting of the exterior clubhouse to address any dry rot and damages to the exterior. Finally, we have expanded the scope to include over a hundred new plants and irrigation along the sidewalk.

This week the landscaping and planting work continued within the playground, the safety surfacing is being installed, and in the coming weeks new fencing and plantings will be installed along Brunswick.

Thank you for your patience as RPD Capital and its partners work towards project completion.
