Hello neighbors!
Following a spectacular, $3.38 million dollar renovation, we were pleased to re-open Herz Playground at the end of August. Read our press release here >>
Thank you to all of the community members who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony, including our speakers: Mayor London Breed, District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton, SF Rec and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg, CEO of SF Parks Alliance Drew Becher, Chief Program Officer of Koret Foundation Danielle Foreman, and Cindy Peiper, Granddaughter of Dr. Herz.
Now that the playground is open, we wanted to share a few other quick updates.
- Starting September 16, the picnic area will be reservable for private events. For reservations, contact RPD’s Permits and Reservations team.
- Although the playground is open, two parts of the project are still in-progress. First, we are waiting for one more picnic table to be installed. Look for that in mid-September. Second, the all-gender multi-user restroom will be closed for another month while we finish renovations. The single-user family restroom at the playground is open and available.
We’re excited to be at the point of the project where we’re wrapping up our last few items.
Again, the playground is open, so we hope you get out there and check it out. Some of our favorite parts of the new play structure include several built-in musical elements, including playable chimes and drums, and a unique, soft spiral ramp that kids can use to climb up to the two bigger slides. If you haven’t been over yet, it’s worth a look!
