The San Francisco Marina Improvement and Remediation Project is really two projects in one: 1) a legally mandated environmental remediation project to clean up old industrial pollutants in the harbor and 2) a marina improvement project to enhance accessibility, beauty, and recreational value of the marina and its surrounding parklands.
1) Environmental Remediation project – Now through June 9, our partners at California Regional Water Quality Control Board (Water Board) are hosting an open public comment period about the environmental remediation options at East Harbor Marina and Outside East Harbor. For more information, see this Fact Sheet about Draft Cleanup Plans. Please refer questions about the environmental remediation to the Ross Steenson at the Water Board, (510) 622-2445, ross.steenson@waterboards.ca.gov. Remember the Water Board’s deadline for public comment on the Draft Cleanup Plans is June 9.
2) Marina Improvement project – The mandated environmental remediation of the marina offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Rec and Park to work with the community to renovate the marina and increase recreational opportunities and access to the water. Rec and Park hosted our first round of community meetings in March, and will host multiple community meetings and public surveys throughout 2023-24 to introduce the project and gather feedback. The feedback Rec and Park receives will inform the development of our conceptual design. The dates for Rec and Park’s future surveys and community meetings have not yet been determined, but we will post announcements on the project website: https://bit.ly/sfmarinaproject. You can also review the presentation from the March meeting at our project website (direct link to PDF). Stay tuned, and thanks!
