Washington Square Park is now open! And thank you to all of the partners that helped to make this a great project. See the piece John King wrote about it in the Chronicle here.
Thanks to all who came to the ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration on December 4. We were lucky to have a momentary break in the rain for the event and so many people came to the “living room” of North Beach to celebrate. The party continued across the street at the Italian Athletic Club with drinks all around and a warm, delicious pasta dinner.

North Beach Neighbors celebrating the ribbon cutting for the park.A quiet moment before the park opened.A break in the rain brought everyone out to the park to celebrate.
We were excited to reopen the park before the holidays! Because this is the beginning of the rainy season and the sod is still technically in the root establishment period, we are intentionally taking a conservative approach throughout the winter months, taking precautionary measures to ensure the long term viability of the lawn. Rec and Park Operations will be monitoring the lawn to ensure it is protected and may cordon off parts of the lawn during and after rain events. We will also be monitoring the dogs using the park. Nothing will impact the quality and condition of the lawn more than intense, unrestricted off leash use in this space.
