Good news is that construction is going great! Our new utility work on Sherman was inspected and approved by PG&E and trenching across the street and down the sidewalk will be repaired by early next week.

Sports lighting pole foundations were inspected and are being poured Saturday (check out the pictures; our contractor came up with a really cool nested system to accommodate the sandy soils).

We know everyone in the SOMA neighborhood is eager for construction at Victoria Manalo Draves Park to be complete. And we also know that the students at Bessie Carmichael Elementary School rely on the park playground and ballfield for their recreation needs. We have been fast-tracking the construction work within the playground in order to open for the kids on the first day of school, Monday 8/16. We are also moving as quickly on the ballfield work, and we will open the field for Bessie Carmichael’s permitted use as soon as possible, currently targeting late in the week of 8/23.

Rec and Park is working with our contractor and SFUSD staff on a safety plan for the school’s permitted use, as construction will continue throughout the park, while the playground and ballfield are open exclusively for Bessie Carmichael’s permitted use.
The construction project is scheduled to be complete by mid-September and the park will be open for all by September 16th.
