Hi everyone, as the holiday break approaches, we just wanted to give a quick update on our past few months and let everyone know that the Youth Stewardship Program for the 2015-2016 school year is off to a great start! So far, the new YSP team has led 10 in-class visits and 26 field trips. The field trips so far have taken place at many of the offered locations around the city, including Heron’s Head Park, Mount Davidson, Glen Canyon Park, the Golden Gate Community Garden, Alemany Farm, the Oak Woodlands, and Buena Vista Park. At Heron’s Head Park, YSP was approved to plant over 500 native plants with classes in the park throughout November and December, which turned out to be a great project involving multiple classes planting, watering, and weeding the new additions to this park. Students of all ages had a great time giving back to their community in this way and learning about native plants in the process. YSP has been busy but productive during these past couple of months, and the whole team is looking forward to all of the field trips that are booked in the coming year!
