Potrero del Sol Community Garden has been nominated to receive funding for the Parks Build Community initiative which kicked off on April 1st. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is collaborating with The Walt Disney Company to help revitalize parks across the country including parks here in San Francisco.
Every day in April you can vote for one of three local parks to receive a $20,000 grant. The park with the most votes at the end of April will receive the funding. The park projects you can vote for are:
- Tenderloin Children’s Recreation Center – To install a full-sized, outdoor basketball court in one of the most densely populated sections of San Francisco.
- Potrero del Sol Community Garden – To enhance one of the oldest community gardens in San Francisco by repairing wood raised beds and install a garden tool shed.
- Bernal Heights Park – To design, fabricate and install interpretive signs to highlight the natural and cultural resources of Bernal Heights Park.
Last year, Bernal Heights Community Garden was the recipient of the $20,000 grant from NRPA. With that funding, we were able to make important safety repairs and conduct over-due maintenance to improve the accessibility of the garden (see photos below). This year, we look forward to improving another one of San Francisco’s great parks thanks to your votes!
Parks help make our lives better by inspiring healthy living, protecting the environment and bringing people together. Support your local parks this Earth Month by visiting them and voting for your favorite park project every day during the month of April!
