Update on Glen Canyon Playground and Tennis Court Project: Project Nearing Completion…

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to provide an update – as you can see if you have been near the project soon,  The Glen Canyon Playground and Tennis Court Project is really moving along, if you see the park now, you will see that the new tennis courts are in place, and the new playgrounds is emerging. Over the next few weeks you will see the remaining pathways installed, the play equipment and slide and the new planting!

Additionally, the waterline is almost complete from Diamond Heights Blvd and around the steps at Elk Street. At times, the path along the guardrail on Diamond Heights and the entrance – the steps from Elk Street – might be impacted due to the utility work.  We apologize for the inconvenience. The entrance behind the backstop on Elk and the Bosworth entrance are expected to remain open throughout the remainder of the project.

Simultaneously, we will be working to improve the new sidewalk and build the new drop off at Elk street, so over the final phase of the project, a portion of Elk Street’s sidewalk on the west side will be closed in front of the construction area at times to allow for this work. The east side of Elk Street’s sidewalk will remain open.

As you may know, in the course of the construction, we have encountered some unanticipated complications.  We encountered some site conditions that delayed the work including unanticipated utility work, including the installation of a new water line.

The Rec Center will be re-opening on January 7th for spring programming.  At this time, the new playground and tennis courts and the related park work are anticipated to be complete in late January.  Please stay tuned for updates!
