Tennis returning to Mission Playground

The Mission Playground Tennis Courts will reopen by the end of June after being closed due to a failing fence.

With ivy overgrowth causing the fence bordering the southern end of the tennis courts to collapse, the Recreation and Parks Department closed the courts in March due to the safety hazard. Rec & Park staff are now working to install a temporary replacement, at which point the tennis courts will be reopened to the public. The estimated completion date for this repair work is the end of June.

The Department anticipates having a permanent replacement fence installed by the end January 2015.  Another temporary court closure in winter will be required to complete this project’s final phase. Up-to-date information about the Mission Playground Tennis Court’s status will be provided on this webpage.  You may also contact Eric Pawlowsky at epawlowsky@sfgov.org or (415) 831-2743.

Alternative locations for tennis in the vicinity of Mission Playground include Eureka Valley (100 Collingwood), Jose Coronado (21st and Folsom), and Upper Noe (Day and Sanchez St.). Newly renovated tennis courts at Dolores Park are scheduled to open by the end of this year. Additional locations can be found on the Department’s website under the ‘Destinations’ section, http://sfrecpark.org/parks-open-spaces/find-a-destination/.
