Mission Dolores Park unveiled a new look on June 18 and one of the improvements is a new bike polo court. Officially it’s a “multi-use court,” but last week the bike polo crew were in control, and it was fun to watch.
The games were three-on-three. The riders I saw were pretty skilled, able to start and stop quickly, turn in a very tight radius, hop in place if needed, control the ball by weaving over it left and right to shield it from opponents, and have enough coordination to handle the polo mallet to control the ball and occasionally rip off a shot.
