San Francisco residents will be given a rare opportunity to learn how to cohabitate with coyotes at a free educational talk this evening in Golden Gate Park, according to the Recreation and Park Department.

Specialists will discuss the biology of coyotes, their behavior, and why controlling the coyote population by killing the animals doesn’t work, according to department Deputy Director of Public Affairs RPD Info.

Officials hope the event will enlighten residents on the common causes of negative encounters with coyotes and how they can be avoided.

“We are eager to help our residents learn more about living with wildlife in our city,” said Phil Ginsburg, department general manager, in a statement.

The event will be in the Hall of Flowers in the park’s County Fair building at 6:30 p.m.
