RPD’s Steve Castile Wins MFAC Award

It is with great pride and pleasure that the Recreation and Park Department announces that Steve Castile, our Golf and Turf Manager, has been selected to received the 2011-2012 MFAC Public Managerial Excellence Award!
MFAC (The Municipal Fiscal Advisory Committee) is a partnership between the City and SPUR (San Francisco Planning+Urban Research Association) that focuses on how to make government work better. For 32 years, MFAC has recognized and awarded those City managers whose performance has made a real, positive, and lasting differences in the lives of San Franciscans and the community at large.
This year Steve Castile has been selected for this prestigious award from the many nominations submitted from all City Departments. In announcing his selection, the Mayor’s Office stated:
“Steven Castile was chosen for his commitment to preserving public access to parks while ensuring environmental sustainability of parkland, managing the City’s agronomical practices for 5 golf courses, e stadiums (including Candlestick and Kezar) and 220 parks. His particular accomplishments in bringing Harding Park up to the expectations of the PlaygroundA Tour exemplify his ingenuity and creativity in staff management and resource allocation to create a world-class golf venue that generates visibiltiy and income for the City.”
We are exceptionally proud of this highly-deserved recognition — and of the extraordinary hard work and amazing results that the Golf Crews, Stadium Crews, Turf Crew, and Mowing Crew accomplish daily under Steve’s exceptional leadership and management. This is what a finely tuned team looks like!
We also wish to note that this is the third consecutive year that Rec & Park has won an MFAC Public Managerial Excellence Award. Steve joins last year’s MFAC winner — Dana Ketcham — and our 2009 MFAC winner — Brent Dennis — in achieving this City-wide distinction for public management excellence.
Please join us in extending congratulations and appreciation to Steve — and the terrific crews under his management — in winning this coveted and richly deserved recognition.
