It’s Official: The Holiday Season is Here!

Holiday tree lighting

More than 500 people came out to McLaren Lodge in Golden Gate Park on December 6 to celebrate the Recreation and Park Department’s 83rd Annual Holiday Tree Lighting, an event begun by longtime park superintendent “Uncle” John McLaren, who would light a mile-long stretch of trees on Fell Street, ending in front of 501 Stanyan Street, his home at the time.  Revelers enjoyed free carnival games, arts and crafts, live entertainment and a visit from Santa.  Mayor Ed Lee, along with several other city officials, was on hand to lead the countdown to the tree lighting.
